What a great, cool episode of House! It focused entirely on Wilson, showcasting this oncologist at work and shoving House to the background for a change.
Aside from seeing how Wilson interacts with his nurses, we also got to see him save a patient’s life by diagnosing that his cancer had gotten worse because he was acting depressed for a day. But the crux of the episode was how Wilson dealt with a former patient that found his way back to the hospital (played by Joshua Malina).

Wilson and this man had become friends after Wilson cured his cancer in 2004. But now he was back and in back trouble, trouble that got even worse after Wilson doubled his chemo in an attempt to cure him again. Turns out, the guy needed a new liver and he needed it quickly. Enter Wilson himself!
Again House’s wishes (he admitted that if Wilson died, he’d be alone), but with a blessing from Cuddy, Wilson donated a piece of his liver to his dying friend and saved his life for a second time. When he awake from surgery, House was by his side, as the interactions between these two have become the best part of the show.
To close the episode – and the 2009 season – Wilson made an offer on a loft for him and House to move into. It was actually the same loft that Cuddy had been trying to purchase with Lucas, but Wilson said that he was angry at Cuddy for hurting his friend (House) and dating Lucas. This was the semi-angry side of Wilson and House loved it. So did we.
I’m torn over the best way to tackle this review of “Ignorance is Bliss.” I have far more bad things to say about the episode than I do good things, yet I loved it. The outcome I (and presumably most other
fans) want to see (House and Cuddy together) is hopefully going to be achieved. This just isn’t my ideal path to get there.
When Lucas was brought back a few weeks ago, I argued that I was happy to have him back as long as there was a good reason for it. Lucas dating Cuddy isn’t a good reason. The character we knew Lucas as (quirky detective) has been completely erased and save for that one brief scene last week when he did some digging into Chase’s medical notes, there’s been no indication that side of Lucas even exists anymore. He’s a different character this time around and it’s destroying everything I liked about him now. I’m not saying House doesn’t need a foil in his quest to win Cuddy’s heart, but with Lucas’ history with House, he could be a much better foil right now.
Having said all that, it seems pretty obvious at this point that Lucas is just a bump in the road and if that’s all he’s going to be in this scenario, I’ll be happy to see him go as quickly as he reappeared. Cuddy may have been enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with Lucas and his family but she felt guilty she sent House to her sister’s place when they were in Hawaii. She knows House is changing and the defeated look on her face at the end of the hour when House offered those free carnival tickets said it all. She won’t let him be nice because she knows what’ll it do to her and how she feels about Greg. So again, I like where it’s going but I’m just not the biggest fan of how we’re getting there.
As for the rest of the episode, most of it was tedious to sit through, not because it wasn’t enjoyable but because it was a lot of re-treading old ground with characters that have already been established. Then again, it has been some time now since Thirteen and Taub were on the team, so maybe re-introducing the tensions between Thirteen and Foreman or Taub’s rocky marriage were necessary evils. As an avid watcher of this show though, any of those scenes just felt recycled from old episodes.

Burnt with the intention to break Cuddy and Lucas, House gets the statement from Cuddy that there could be nothing between her and House. Next week on “House M.D.“, House is not only punched at heart but literally on his face, courtesy of Chase.

Meanwhile on the medical side, House and the team take on the case of James Sidas, an exceptionally brilliant physicist and author who traded his successful career for a job as a courier. For the ailing patient, intelligence is a miserable burden that has prompted depression and addiction, and this, coupled with his myriad unusual symptoms, nearly stumps the team.
“Ignorance is Bliss” airs Monday, November 23.
On another news, story is developing on Cameron being written off the show. Jennifer Morrison just told EW that she finds “the entire situation sort of confusing”. However, Cameron has not been officially extracted from the show, and that Morrison said she has been paid for the remainder of the season.
